The Ordean Devildogs First Tech Challenge robotics team returned from their second competition of the season with success! Winning four out of five matches, the team ranked second out of twenty-six teams at the end of qualifying rounds. Their second place ranking earned them a spot as one of four alliance team captains for the semi-final and final rounds. The Devildogs selected alliance partners We Robot #11565 from Eden Prairie and Spontaneous Construction #14779 from Shoreview. The alliance won the best of three semi-final round by sweeping the first two matches and moved on to the final round squaring off against the number one seeded alliance. One of the Devildog’s alliance partners experienced mechanical issues in the first and second matches of the finals leaving the alliance to finish the day as second place finalists. The Devildogs were also named as finalists for two tournament awards and accomplished many of their season goals. We are so proud of the team’s hard work and season accomplishments and want to also thank the team’s coaches, mentors and sponsors.
Congratulations to the Devildogs on an extremely successful competition season!
The Devildogs are part of FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), a robotics competition for 7th-12th graders founded by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). The mission of FIRST is to get young people interested in STEM and inspire innovation and leadership. They're sponsored in part by the Duluth East Daredevils robotics team.
Each season, the team must build a robot to compete in a regional competition. The Devildogs meet several times a week to work on their robot, conduct media and outreach, compile an Engineering Notebook to show progress and challenges overcome during the build season.
