Each Winter Walk to School Day Minnesota Safe Routes to School asks participating schools to submit stories and photos of their event to compete for the Golden Snow Boot Award.
After reviewing the stories and photos from participating schools, Congdon Park Elementary in Duluth stood out as the 2019 Golden Snow Boot winner! Congdon had over 10 percent of the student body participate, which is about 67 students.
Winter Walk to School Day in Duluth was a balmy 17 degrees, with no wind chill. Congdon had snow the day before, but that actually helped provide a little snowpack over what had been icy sidewalks in our community. Great day for walking to school, and was evidenced on lots of happy faces!
When students arrived on school grounds, there were lots of happy faces. It was a beautiful morning and you can see from the photos that walking to school energizes the students. Kathi Kusch-Marshall, Congdon principal, is a grand supporter of Safe Routes to School and she joined staff in giving high fives to students as they arrived on foot.
Congratulations Congdon Park for your amazing Winter Walk to School Day event!
