Happy January 2019!
Dear Congdon Park Families,
It is with great pleasure that I take a moment to thank you for all the great learning that we have shared this school year. As I begin to review the month of January, it’s exciting to see how much is going on and to witness on a daily basis the rich learning environment. Reports cards will be going home on January 30 with the students. Staff wanted to make sure you had an opportunity to review the new standardized report cards before the conference. There has been a lot of great information shared explaining the report card changes and I would encourage you to also visit the Duluth Public Schools website at: firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
A huge Shout-Out to our School Patrols, Mrs. Lofstuen, Ms. McKeever, and Ms. Amie for making sure the students are safety getting to and from school. It is not easy to be outside in the cold and we are very grateful for their support each and every day. It seems like Mother Nature decided to adjust the winter weather for us and lately the days have been pretty cold. We remind the students to dress for the weather which means boots and appropriate snow gear. Part of this recommendation is due to many students sitting with wet feet and wet clothes all afternoon. Please talk with your child about dressing for the weather and let me know if you have questions or need assistance.
<>Welcome to Tim, our new building engineer, and all of his crew for their continued efforts both inside and outside of Congdon Park School. A gentle drop off reminder, in an effort to keep our children safe, all students must be dropped off in the parent drop off area. Students should be getting out of the car on the curb side. The safety of your child is our number one priority, let’s work together to make sure our pick up and drop off procedures are being followed.
The flu season is here and sometimes children need to stay home. Please make sure to let the school know when your child is absent from school or if you have an appointment. We ask that you always send a note with your child if the end of the day procedure changes. Always encourage your child to do their own personal best at school and to complete their work. Please support your child in attending the Congdon Conferences. Winter conferences will be held on Tues. Feb. 5th and Thurs. Feb. 7th, from 2:30-7:00. The Congdon Park Book Fair will also be going on that week. Please make sure to contact your child’s teacher about their conferences if you have a question.
Congratulations to Maxwell H. who participated in the sectional spelling bee. Max did an excellent job representing Congdon Park. It takes a lot of time and energy to compete at this level and we are very proud of Max’s accomplishments. I would like to remind everyone that Friday January 18th and Monday January 21st there is no school for students as it is end of semester and a day to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Enjoy each day and always remember to always spend reading time with your child.

I’d like to close with the following quote that I recently read by Melba Pattillo Beals: “We must see ourselves reflected in every other human being, and respect and honor our differences.”
