Who is Staff Development in Duluth Public Schools? 

  • Staff Development in Duluth Public Schools includes: Staff Development Advisory Committee, Relicensure, Mentoring, Teacher Development, Human Resources, Special Services Professional Development, Early Childhood Professional Development, and many other groups who represent each of the bargaining units within the district

What is the role of Staff Development in Duluth Public Schools?

  • Coordinate professional learning opportunities for all staff and employees in the district
  • Aid in the goal of increased student achievement at an organizational level
  • Advance the strategic plan of the district by providing essential training and skills for all employees
  • Model lifelong learning 

Why is continued professional learning important for everyone involved in the public school organization?

  • Education is a complex system which requires constant learning to keep up and move forward.
  • Challenges of changing subject content, new instructional methods, advances in technology, changing laws and procedures, and student learning needs make continued professional learning for all public school employees an essential need.
  • Educators and educator support professionals who receive continued, effective, job-embedded professional learning consistently improve their skills, and in turn, student success.
