As the first week of school comes to a close, I want to thank you for all you have done to get the year off to a good start. I’ve had the opportunity to spend time in several schools this week. I love the positive energy and levels of student engagement I’ve witnessed!
This time of year is so important to setting high expectations, explaining what those expectations are, and setting routines that will form the rest of the year. Thank you for communicating your expectations through highly engaging lessons, regular feedback, and thoughtful conversations.
Our district values and beliefs statement, developed by staff, student, parents, and community members, includes creating safe, welcoming environments where the uniqueness of each person is honored, respected, and valued; recognizing that we all come from many different circumstances and backgrounds. This brings to mind the moving stories that Principal El shared in our opening day-- the pencil story specifically spoke to me. I have heard from many others that they too connected with his stories is some way. Over the course of the coming year, we will continue our focus on ways we can connect with our students in a way that is responsive to their unique needs and circumstances.
Again, Happy New Year-- I look forward to continuing our journeys together.
