News & Announcements
Duluth Public Schools is aware of the recent presidential executive order concerning the U.S. Department of Education. We are carefully reviewing the implications of this order for our district and our families. In the meantime, I would like to share some of our initial observations.
As you know, we are navigating challenging times as we have had to reduce our budget by $7.6 million dollars over a two-year period. We acknowledge the difficulty of this situation as we do our best to identify reductions that have the least impact on our ability to meet student needs. This collaborative effort is anchored in our Budget Reduction and Realignment Guiding Change document.
Duluth Public Schools is thrilled to announce that School Board member Rosie Loeffler-Kemp has been selected as a 2025 All-State School Board Member by the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA). This prestigious honor recognizes Loeffler-Kemp's exemplary service, leadership, and commitment to advancing education in Duluth.
ISD 709 is seeking bids and proposals.
The reconstruction of the Myers-Wilkins Elementary School gymnasium is scheduled to commence next week, with an anticipated completion date in January. The project, estimated to cost approximately $660,000, will be paid for through the district’s insurance.
Duluth Public Schools will need to make $5 million in necessary budgetary adjustments for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. These adjustments are in response to financial challenges, including the end of federal pandemic relief funding, inflation, new unfunded legislative mandates, and rising special education costs.
