Duluth School Board Honors Ken Willms, Transportation Manager

During their regular meeting in January, Duluth School Board members took time to recognize ISD 709 Transportation Manager Ken Willms.

The Minnesota Association of Pupil Transportation selected Willms as the 2013 MAPT Administrator of the Year.  He received this honor at the Minnesota School Bus Safety Expo in St. Paul.  MAPT is a non-profit association of school transportation professionals and industry leaders who promote safe and efficient student transportation.  The award recognizes Ken’s leadership and excellence in the area of student transportation.

Ken has worked in student transportation for over 30 years, nearly 25 of them as a manager.  He serves as Region 4 Director for MAPT and is a former Secretary and President of MAPT.

Governor Proclaims School Counseling Week

Governor Mark Dayton has proclaimed February 3-7, 2014 as School Counseling Week.  The proclamation recognizes the work done by school counselors to help students with career readiness and development; help parents focus on ways to support their children; work with  teachers and other educators to help students explore their potential; and seek to identify community resources that can help students become effective members of society.  In the proclamation, Dayton calls school counseling programs an integral part of the educational process that enables all students to achieve success in school.

Congratulations

Cello students Henry Paton and Jubran Jindeel, Ordean East Middle School, have been accepted through audition process to perform during the MNSOTA Middle Level Honors Orchestra in February. The orchestra will perform at the Minneapolis Convention Center as part of the MMEA Convention.
