Sara Lemon, Duluth East High School, competed in the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN.  She placed Silver Division in National Programs in Action for her service project on the dangers of texting and driving.  Family, Career and Community Leaders in America  (FCCLA) is a national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.

Brenton Decker, Danish Imtiaz, and Peter Sand, Duluth East High School, have qualified as National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists.  Of the 1.5 million students from more than 22,000 high schools nation-wide who took the PSAT as juniors, these students are included in the 16,000 students in the United States who qualified as National Merit Semi-Finalists and can continue in the competition for the National Merit Scholarships to be awarded in the spring of 2014. These students are three of the highest-scoring entrants in Minnesota and represent less than 1 percent of the state's high school seniors.
