Daredevils  Robotics Team to Compete at the Annual Prior Lake Minne-Mini Regional

On Saturday, November 22, 2014, the Duluth East Daredevils will compete at the annual Prior Lake Minne-Mini Regional where they were finalists last year. Competitors will use their robots from the 2014 challenge, Aerial Assist, which involved shooting and passing exercise balls. Participating teams, in addition to practicing their roles and skills on the team, will attend workshops to help benefit specific areas of their team. Spectators will notice improvements on many robots added after spring competitions.

This scrimmage will help to simulate competition for new team members and give returning members a chance to brush up on their skills before the 2015 Season Kickoff. The new challenge will be revealed worldwide through a live NASA broadcast on Saturday, January 3. The Daredevils will host this Kickoff at UMD.

The FFA Club at Duluth East High School hosted an Urban Ag Day at Congdon Park Elementary School.   FFA students brought lessons and living creatures, helping youngsters learn:

  • about parts of plants,
  • what qualifies as a vegetable or fruit,
  • how a tractor moves hay and corn,
  • how to honk a tractor horn,
  • how to care for chickens and goats
  • what goat cheese tastes like,
  • and how to make the best taco (the secret is in using local ingredients!) in Duluth.

This was such a fun experience, learning about agriculture in the city!
