National School Counseling Week
   Many thanks to Duluth’s School Counselors and the work they do to help students explore their abilities, strengths, interests and talents; help parents focus on ways to further the educational, personal and social growth of their children; and help students realize their full potential and become productive members of society.

Denfeld Student Chosen for State Level Honors Orchestra  
   Logan Griggs, ninth grader and violist at Denfeld High School, was selected by audition to participate in the Middle Level Honors Orchestra, scheduled to perform during the state convention for the Minnesota Music Educators Association this weekend. Congratulations, Logan!

Ordean East Spellers Heading to State 
   Nina Wilkowske and Sophia He, Ordean East Middle School, earned first and second place in the NE Service Cooperative Regional Spelling Bee and are heading to the Multi-Region State Competition in Fergus Falls this month, congratulations!  The first place finisher at the multi-region bee will travel to Washington, DC for the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.

Congratulations Makayla Pearson, Denfeld High School – Named Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year! 
   Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive.  The Award recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s Club, family, school and community, service, academic success, moral character, life goals and public speaking ability.

Ordean East History Day Exhibit – Feb 16 & 17
   Ordean East Middle School Seventh Grade History Day Exhibits will be on display in the school’s media center February 16 from 6:00PM to 7:00PM and February 17 from 8:45AM to 3:15PM.  Families and community members are invited to visit and view.  Ordean East is located at 2900 East 4th Street.

Denfeld Students & Alum CJ Ham Lend a Hand   
   Denfeld graduate and Minnesota Viking CJ Ham was invited to be part of a Denfeld Key Club fundraiser for a family who lost their home to fire in December. Students in the club raised more than $1,000 in donations. Key Club President Kong Xiong said if enough funds were raised he would shave his head, Ham did the honors.

Student Success at German Day 
   German language students from Ordean East Middle School, Denfeld and Duluth East High Schools joined schools from across the state to take part in German Day, held at the Minnesota Zoo.  Upper level students competed in informational and entertaining presentations. Denfeld students Denise Citti, Tugce Onkuzu, Molly Anderson and Autumn Zierman earned the prize for Best Visual Display.  Students who didn’t compete were able to watch and interact with the presentations.
