Denfeld Receives Full Service Community School Grant
   Denfeld High School received a $19,950 grant from the Minnesota Department of Education.  The funds will help Denfeld create a Full Service Community School Plan which will identify physical, emotional and mental health needs of students and families as well as potential resources and partnerships to help address those needs.  Lincoln Park Middle School and Myers-Wilkins Elementary are currently implementing their FSCS Plans.

Myers-Wilkins Receives Full Service Community Schools Grant
   Myers-Wilkins received a grant totaling $66,632 from the Minnesota Department of Education to continue their work as a Full Service Community School.  The grant will support the staffing necessary to continue programming implementation.

Duluth Debate Team Success:
 Denfeld High School’s Nick Anderson and Quinten Rimolde earned a spot at the MSHSL State Debate Tournament in the Twin Cities this month, congratulations and best wishes!

Duluth East A’Capella at State MSBA Conference:
 Students from Duluth East High School's A'Capella performed the National Anthem at the Minnesota School Boards Association conference in the Twin Cities.

Sharing the New Aerospace Class at State Conference:
 Students taking the new ISD 709 Aerospace Physics course shared their experience at the Minnesota School Boards Association conference in the Twin Cities. The course is part of ISD 709's Career and Technical Education program.

Thank you, Mr. Kanzler:
  John Kanzler, a WWII Veteran, visited Duluth East High School’s American History students to talk about his time as a gunner on the USS Colorado in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Sharing his insight into history and his personal experiences really brought the WWII unit to life.  Thank you, Mr. Kanzler, for your service!

Welding Grant:  Denfeld High School received six Dare to Dream grants from the Ann Bancroft Foundation.  The $3,000 in grant funds will benefit six female Engineering and Design students and will cover the cost of materials, supplies and personal equipment to allow those students to weld after school.

   Local youth poets will compete in the Slam Series for a chance to make it to the semi-finals and finals in the Twin Cities.  Come out and support local youth/students who are expressing themselves and striving for excellence in this expressive art form!

   Featuring a wonderful feast, drumming, singing, dancing, and a Career and Higher Education Fair that will introduce children and families to a wide variety of careers and higher education opportunities. 
    This event is a fun opportunity for children, families, friends, and neighbors to honor American Indian traditions; educators who inspire a love of learning and help to prepare students for their vocations; and students of all ages who are engaged in learning.   Children must be accompanied by an adult.

   The evening will showcase students in the fine arts on stage with music, speeches, and the Minnesota State One Act Competition play entitled: The Diviners, 
   The Diviners is the Winner of the American College Theatre Festival. This is the story of a disturbed young man and his friendship with a disenchanted preacher in southern Indiana in the early 1930s. The preacher, set on breaking away from a long line of Kentucky family preachers, is determined not to do what he does best, which is preach, in turn develops a unique friendship with the boy.
