Share Your Thoughts & Ideas - 2016 Think Kids Online Survey

   Think Kids is an opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas about education in Duluth - what's going well, what could be done better, from student achievement to school climate and more.  

   Taking part is easy - please review the information online and then fill out the survey by March 28.  


   ACTion Day! Tuesday, April 19

   The Duluth Public Schools and Head of the Lakes United Way are excited to announce the student volunteer "ACTion Day" in conjunction with ACT Test Day on Tuesday, April 19. 

   While Denfeld & Duluth East high school 11th Grade students complete the ACT college entrance exam on April 19, students in grades 9, 10 and 12 will have the day off and encouraged to engage in service projects throughout the community. Clubs and teams are strongly encouraged to sign up together, individual students may also sign up for a project.  Students interested in giving back to the community and connecting with great organizations can sign up online.

All Welcome!  ISD 709 Tech Fair March 29    
   Technology is ever-changing, impacting the way students learn and teachers teach. Families, community members and staff are invited to see firsthand how students and teachers are using 21st Century tools in the classroom by attending the next ISD 709 Tech Fair:

Knowledge Bowl Teams Take 1st & 2nd Place at Regionals

   One of Duluth East’s senior teams (Gabe Stanley, Katie Plachta, Jude Goosens and Cullen White) took first place in the regional Knowledge Bowl competition and earned a trip to the state tournament in April.   A team of Duluth East juniors (Emma Flynn, Zane Deitlan, Spencer Johnson, Joesph Kebbekus, and Rana Imtiaz) took second place and will also participate at the state meet.


Students Receive State Honors for Achievement in the Arts

   Congdon Park Elementary students placed in the Minnesota State PTA Reflections Art Program. The photography and literature pieces from two first place winners, Annika Saur and Annelies Schoolderman, have now moved on to compete in the National PTA Reflections Program in Washington D.C.

   Nearly 300,000 students from across the country, and in American schools overseas, participate annually in the National PTA’s Reflections program. The awards program spans six arts categories (Dance Choreography, Film Production, Music Composition, Photography, Literature, and Visual Arts) across four grade divisions and the new Special Artist Division, intended for students whose physical, cognitive or mental health challenges meet ADA guidelines. 

   This year, students explored the arts and the world around them through the theme, "Let Your Imagination Fly."
