Mr. Thornton is a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel who earned the Bronze Star Medal for exceptional performance in combat operations in 2009 and 2010 during Operations Iraqi Freedom. He and his family have lived all over the world, and his two children have been part of school systems in Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Texas, as well as the Department of Defense Schools overseas.
Charlie Bray and Danielle Patterson, Duluth East High School, have been named "Commended Students" in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. They place among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 competition by taking the 2012 PSAT exam.
The Duluth East Daredevils Robotics Team received an invitation to represent FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) high school robotics at the Vital Tech Expo at the DECC in October. From computing technology to robotics the Tech Expo brings companies from around the region together to share information and help each other solve problems. The Daredevils are proud to represent the values and processes of FIRST robotics. Students will benefit by learning about opportunities that are available within this industry and help them develop important connections.
