During its regular July meeting, the Duluth School Board formally recognized Billy Menor, East High School, who recently traveled to Washington, DC, to participate in the National History Day Competition.  He and two members of his group presented a project called  “Ida Tarbell’s Expose of Standard Oil: A Turning Point in Journalism.”  They received a silver medal in that competition.  National History Day is a year-round academic program open to elementary and secondary students.  They choose a historical topic related to an annual theme, conduct primary and secondary research, and create a presentation.  Billy and his group successfully competed in regional and state competitions before qualifying for the national level.
